Damaris Mutia

Ms. Mutia is an assistant research scientist working at KMFRI in the Oceanography and Hydrography department. She has been involved in the planning of RV Mtafiti cruises under the SOLSTICE-WIO and the SAPPHIRE projects. Within the projects, she has been the lead of the component assessing the impact of Tana River outflow on productivity in Ungwana Bay and adjacent waters. Consequently, she published one peer-reviewed journal on the component. Currently she is a member of Kenya’s technical working group of WIO-Symphony project. She is experienced in remote sensing and GIS techniques as well as the acquisition and analysis of physical oceanographic parameters using different softwares.

Her main research interests are operational oceanography, Ocean Modelling, Instrumentation and research cruises. As part of building her career, she has enrolled and participated in both National and international trainings in the Field of Physical Oceanography. She is passionate about ocean observations to understand the ocean circulation and heat budgets and their impact on biodiversity and conservation.
