OGWAI has been working on fish health research unit at the KMFRI fresh water systems (KMFRI-FWS) since 1988. He currently holds a senior position as a research scientist I. He has done several international research expeditions in France, Belgium and Netherlands. He has also done several local research expeditions in Lakes; Naivasha, Turkana, Baringo, Sare, Kanyaboli, and Victoria. He has participated in several International, regional and national fisheries conferences and workshops in Tanzania, Burundi and Kenya.
His current research focus is on aquatic biosecurity. He has published extensively in journals, conferences and national ecological newsletters. He is also an opinion leader and a member of several development committees and forums; Forum for Advancing Rural Action on HIV/AIDS and Development (FAVRA+) at the grassroots community level in Homa Bay County.
