University of Nairobi (Bachelor of Education in Botany, Zoology, & Education); 1980.Fisheries College of the University of Bergen, Norway; 1983-1984 where he followed courses on Fish Biology and Fish population dynamics, as part fulfillment of M.Sc. of University of Bergen, Norway. University of Nairobi 1985-1988. M.Sc. in Hydrobiology by Thesis on The population dynamics and fishery of penaeid prawns in Tudor Creek, Mombasa with special emphasis on Penaeus Monodon, Fabricius 1798. University of Gent, Belgium 1994-1999: Ph D (Marine Science): Great Distinction by Thesis on The ichthyofauna of a Tropical mangrove bay (Gazi bay, Kenya): Community structure and trophic organization.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:

Participated and provided expert services to the UNEP’s team of experts on Global Environmental Outlook - 3 (GEO-3) Analysis on state of environment. Eastern Africa sub-region: marine & Coastal Area (August. 2000).Supervised a number of students on M. Sc. Program at the University of Nairobi. Chaired the Preparation of a Regional Book on the Biodiversity of Lake Victoria: Its Conservation and Sustainable Use (LVEMP/WB, 2002). Chaired the Preparation of a Regional Book on the Biology and Ecology of Lake Victoria Fisheries.Chaired the Editorial Committee for the Preparation of the Book proceedings of First LVEMP National Scientific Conference (October 2001) also Chaired the working group on National Fish Sector Development Strategy Paper (for Export Promotion Council).
