Introduction
Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) is a state corporation under the Ministry of Fisheries Development, it was established in 1979 by the Science and Technology Act, Cap 250. KMFRI is mandated to perform research in fisheries, aquaculture, environmental issues and socio-economic factors with the aim of generating information that may be applied for development and sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources while promoting conservation of the environment.

  • Handle clients with dignity, courtesy and respect
  • Provide accurate information on written requests (where information is available)

  • Pay creditors within 30 days upon successful supply of satisfactory goods and services as per the specifications
  • Treat clients concerns with confidentiality where necessary.

Communication
We undertake to:

  • Promote public awareness and education
  • Respond to all matters promptly
  • Answer phone calls within 15 seconds
  • Reply to correspondence of all nature within a week unless specified otherwise

Uphold high standards of professionalism in service delivery and zero tolerance to corruption.

Performance Monitoring
Our performance is measured through the following ways:

  • Quarterly and annual performance reviews
  • Act on feedback and comments provided by clients
  • Review of service charter every 3 years (or earlier should circumstances dictate).

Implementation of this charter
All staff of KMFRI work collectively towards the implementation of this charter. All Departmental Heads are responsible for its implementation and monitoring. The Public Relations Office is responsible for monitoring the levels of compliance with the charter.
