PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:

    • Undertook production of the first marine resource mapping for Kenya under the sponsorship of UNEP Regional Seas Program, EAF/14 project which lasted from 1995 to 1998 and produced a GIS database and a hardcopy atlas for use in Integrated Coatal Zone Management.  The products are available in KMFRI.


    • Participated in the WWF ecoregion visioning process to identify the marine priority ecoregions in Eastern Africa


    • Participated in production of the 1st Sensitivity Mapping for Oil Spill atlas for the Kenyan coast in 2005, being a contribution towards the Kenya National Marine Oil Spill Contingency Plan, thereby creating maps and GIS database to be used by the Oil Spill Response Action Team.  The products are in custody of KMFRI, Mombasa

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AND INTERESTS:

  • Participating in the SWIOFP Component 2 (Kenya crustacean data gap analysis) and Regional crustacean data gap analysis at the Oceanographic Research Institute offices, Durban, South Africa, 2009
  • Participated in the ecological monitoring campaigns of the Kenyan marine parks and reserves coordinated by the Kenya Wildlife Service, produced a thesis in partial fulfilment of the Degree in MSc. Ecological Marine Management of Free University of Brussels, Belgium, 2008
  • Participated in trawling research under special license coordinated by the Kenya Fisheries Department, Malindi-Ungwana Bay, North Coast Kenya, 2004
