KMFRI held a ceremony at the Mombasa headquarters to celebrate the best performers during the past three financial years.

Among Research Scientists awarded include Dr Christopher Aura, Dr Chrisphine Nyamweya and Mr Joseph Nyaundi who took 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively during FY 2017/2018.

During FY 2018/2019, Dr Aura maintained the 1st position as the best performer while Dr Jonathan Munguti and Dr Nyamweya took the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Dr Aura still maintained the 1st position during the FY 2019/2020 while Dr Kelvin Obiero and Dr Nyamweya scooped the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
For Support Staff Services, Mr Tom Awuondo, Mr Jimmy Tunje and Ms Meggan Kinara were awarded for their exemplary performance during FY 2017/2018, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
In 2018/2019 FY, Mr Awuondo maintained the 1st position, Mr Caleb Ochiewo was 2nd best while Mr Fredrick Okello took the 3rd position.

Mr Nixon Moindi emerged the best performer during FY 2019/2020, Mr Micheal Mosoti scooped the 2nd position while Mr Awuondo took the 3rd position.
Ranking on scientific publications

Freshwater Systems, Ocean and Coastal Systems and Aquaculture directorate took the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in that order.
Ranking based on a number of newly funded proposals

Ocean and Coastal Systems emerged the best followed by Aquaculture, with Socioeconomics taking the 3rd position.
Ranking based on the amount of funds raised through proposals

Aquaculture was the best directorate followed by Ocean and Coastal Systems while Freshwater Systems was position three.
Ranking based on a number of Technical reports submitted

Social Economics carried the day with the highest technical reports while Aquaculture was the second best. Freshwater Systems was ranked position three.
Dr Nyamweya, Dr Aura and Prof James Njiru were awarded as the top researchers in scientific publications, taking the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, during FY 2019/2020.
The event was presided over by KMFRI BoM Chairman Hon John Safari Mumba, accompanied by the Board members.
Prof Njiru congratulated the staff for performing well and urged them to work hard adding that performance will always be rewarded.
