Organization Research
KMFRI has adopted a multidisciplinary programme approach in research based on six research programmes namely, Fisheries, Aquaculture research and development, environment and ecology, natural products and post harvest, socio-economics and information and data management. Two of these programmes namely fisheries and aquaculture are core programmes of the institute. Each programme is headed by a coordinator of which there are 12, six for each research division.
Fisheries Research Program
This is one of the core research programs for KMFRI. The programme is responsible for inventorying and assessment of fish stocks: their special and temporal abundance and distribution. The program also undertakes studies on the interaction between fisheries organisms and their environment, fish population dynamics, fish diseases from natural causes and due to environmental degradation, and investigates adoptive fishing technologies conducive to our environmental conditions.
